Abstract

Interpretation scholars used Isrā’īliyyāt’s narration while interpreting qaṣaṣ al-Qur’ān by using different approaches such as narrating part of the Isrā’īliyyāt’s narration, focusing the narration in a specific category or by not giving any commentary on its status. This narration could divert the reader’s focus from the teaching contained in the qaṣaṣ al-Qur’ān to a worthless debate. Therefore, this research analyses Abdul Hadi Awang’s interpretation method in interacting with Isrā’īliyyāt’s narration. This research uses a qualitative design by content analysis. The collection of the research’s data was through document analysis on an audio recording of a few quranic chapters interpreted by Abdul Hadi. NVivo software was applied to analyse the data descriptively. The finding of the research shows that the Isrā’īliyyāt narration presented by Abdul Hadi was divided into two categories, namely narration that comes with commentary and narration without commentary. Besides, it was noted that the Isrā’īliyyāt narration found in Abdul Hadi’s interpretation was not his own source of interpretation, in fact, it was presented to attract the audience’s attention in his lecture.

Muhammad Khairi Abdul Azib, Pusat Kajian Al-Quran dan Al-Sunnah, Fakulti Pengajian Islam, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

Muhammad Khairi bin Abdul Azib, born in Bachok, Kelantan. Started secondary education at Maahad Amir Indera Petra, Bachok, Kelantan. Higher education began at the diploma level at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Terengganu, in 2012. Then, he pursued his Bachelor’s (2015) and Master’s (2019) at the National University of Malaysia. The fields of study at Diploma, Bachelor and Master’s levels are the al-Quran and al-Sunnah studies. He served as an assistant graduate researcher for two years, starting January 2020 until December 2021. The scope of work in the research involved the process of transcription, takhrij of hadith and athar and editing of interpretive manuscripts. Also experienced as a part-time assistant researcher for two months, starting February until March 2022. He is also interested in further exploring the field of interpretation of the al-Quran and hadith to explore the various benefits of this field of study.
